Major General Lawrence H. Ross, Sr.
Major General Lawrence H. Ross, Sr. was
born in August 1948 in Ticonderoga, NY. He entered military service with the Marine
Corps Reserve in December 1970 at Parris Island, SC. After six years in the Marine
Reserve, MG Ross joined the Florida Army National Guard and was selected as the
Honor Graduate of Florida National Guard Military Academy OCS Class 18 at Camp Blanding
in May 1979. MG Ross transferred to the Georgia Army National Guard as a Second
Lieutenant in January 1980.
MG Ross served early in his career with the Georgia Military Institute (GMI) as a
Platoon Tactical Officer in Milledgeville and Senior Tactical Officer in Macon.
He also served as Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, Company Commander,
S-1, S-2, and Battalion Executive Officer in the 1/122nd Infantry (TLAT) in Covington
and Winder. Following duty as the 48th Infantry Brigade (Mechanized) Inspector General
and Deputy State Inspector General, MG Ross commanded the 1/121st Infantry Battalion
(Mechanized) in Winder. He served as both Operations Officer and Commander of the
122nd Rear Operations Center in Savannah prior to serving as the Deputy Commander
of the 78th Troop Command. MG Ross assumed command of the 78th Troop Command in
January 2004, was appointed Assistant Adjutant General for Defense Support of Civil
Authorities in January 2008, and Commander, Joint Staff and Joint Task Force Georgia
in February 2009. He currently serves as the Director of Manpower and Personnel,
J1, at National Guard Bureau in Arlington, Virginia.
MG Ross received a Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering from the University
of South Florida and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Florida Atlantic
University. His military education includes the Amphibious Tractor Crewman School,
Shore Fire Control Party School, Infantry Officer Basic Course, Infantry Officer
Advanced Course, Master Fitness Trainer Course, Inspector General Course, Command
and General Staff College, and the Army War College.
His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal,
Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal,
Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Training Ribbon,
Georgia Oglethorpe Award, Georgia Meritorious Service Medal, Georgia Commendation
Medal, and the Georgia State Active Duty Ribbon.
MG Ross is retired from BellSouth Corporation where he was Director of Security and
Business Continuity. He had 35 years of service with BellSouth in a variety of line
and staff positions in Network, Administrative Services, Corporate Planning and
Corporate Real Estate.
Mr. Kevin Crowley is the Deputy Director, Manpower and Personnel for the
National Guard Bureau.
In this capacity, he assists in the overall
human resource strategic planning, integration, analysis, manpower and personnel
policy, and oversight for the Chief, National Guard Bureau in order to enhance National
Guard Bureau and Joint Force Headquarters initiatives, personnel readiness, operational
capabilities and sustainment of the National Guard Community.
